“When I was in high school, I recall hearing my girlfriends talk about wanting to be mothers by 24, 25, 26.. I was the lone voice stating that I wanted to be married around the age of 30 and to have children a few years later…Fast forward nearly ten years later and guess what? Thirty is knocking on our doors, tapping on our windows…and we’re all still unmarried and childless. One of us is engaged and will jump the broom just before turning 28 and a couple of us have steady boyfriends that will likely become husbands. But no one who’d claimed that ‘baby by 26’ deadline made it. I can’t really be too smug, however; I don’t see my plans panning out either…” —“i’ll have a baby by…” via The Loop 21

“Feminism has somehow become an easy target for those who don’t understand it. It’s the boogeywoman keeping all the Black folks mad at each other, apparently. And while I’m not sure when this attitude went viral (likely when the internet gave people the right to position themselves as experts on things they haven’t even looked up on Wikipedia), but it is a virus.” —“keep feminism’s name out your mouth”-from the beautiful struggler

“While statistics (and common sense) would take issue with Beyonce’s musical claim that “girls” run the world on her new album, the singer is certainly an example of the feminine power to be reckoned with in the record industry. But are women getting paid or getting played? Seems to be a bit of both.” —from “women in black music:getting paid or getting played?” via black enterprise

“In a country that teaches women self-defense or how “not” to get sexually assaulted (don’t drink this, don’t go there, don’t wear that), conventional “wisdom” tells us that we should either dress modestly and/or simply accept the fact that flesh makes men crazy. Imagine that. What an awful thing to tell women and an awful thing to suggest about men — that they don’t have the capacity for the self–restraint or to show respect to a woman that isn’t based on what she has on, but is instead offered because she is a fellow human being.” —

some good old fashioned victim blaming in the comments, too. surprise, surprise.

Hey There, Angry Guy

“Yes, you. The one who can’t wait to get to work every day so you can spend half the morning pouring over articles on Black women’s websites…not because you think the writing is good, nor because you want to learn more about what sisters are thinking…but because you can’t stand Black women and can’t wait to throw shade in the comments section. Yeah, you…”

“As far as political sex scandals go, this one is rather innocuous; it seems that the communication was consensual, there isn’t any evidence of an off-line affair. Weiner isn’t accused of assualting or harassing anyone. He, as far as we know, seems to be guilty of being messy and clueless while participating in some reckless online behavior that would piss most wives off to no end. And while I understand that any display of poor judgement reflects terribly upon an elected official (and challenges the trust of his constituents), this isn’t the sort of infraction that makes me say “Get him out of here!” —the clever weiner joke well is dry (via the beautiful struggler)

five reasons to click this link and vote → mcdfslpairs.mcdonalds.com

hey! come here! yes, you…come here!

i hate to bombard folks with this, but my boo and i are finalists in the Perfect Pair Contest and we really need your support. why?

1) we are one struggling ass starving artist couple right now, and winning this contest would allow us to support con ed, natural grid, t-mobile and a couple of local landlords.

2)our video is for real cute! and you may like it! ghostface kitten was supposed to be in it, but he jumped up and started scratching at me and was replaced by our notebooks.

3) both of us are freelancers (me: writer, him:graphic design) and both of our computers are literally falling apart. that could be pretty bad.

4) because helping people is great and i would do it for you.

5) it’s good karma!

so please, please, please vote vote vote! and consider reblogging it, too! we are listed as @sistertoldja.

“The idea that Black people are harder than other folks on our cultural products is pretty ridiculous. Every year, shows and movies with all or mostly White casts tank… The difference: they’re getting a lot more chances to make the shot. And since the playing field is not leveled, sure, it may seem like we’re particularly critical. But in reality, when you have but a handful of Black films (and even less TV shows) each year, the criticism may seem a bit more intense.” —lowered expectations (clutch magazine)

I just found this gif. I wish I knew where it came from, it has been sitting in my gif folder for years.

My guess is it came from the Pro-Choice Guild of Gaia.
